How to Generate Traffic To Your Blog – Video Series

By Mark / March 26, 2012

Over the past few months the traffic to this blog has more than doubled, of those visitors over 55% are new visitors. I achieved this without buying any links or using a blog network to link back to my site or indeed doing any traditional link building at all.

Following last weeks actions by Google against blog networks I have decided to focus more on  attracting visitors by engaging with them and by using more of  Pat Flynn’s Be Everywhere strategy.

Building links naturally is what google wants and this is what I intend to do, by simply ensuring that as many people as possible see the blog and the content. I will encourage you the reader to share the content and I’ll share it myself via Linkedin, Facebook Twitter and Google +. On the flipside I’l also share good posts by other bloggers and I encourage you to do the same.

If we all got into the habit of sharing quality content then we wouldn’t need to worry about google deindexing our sites and where we ranked, visitors would find our sites naturally.

To do this it is important that I come up with a plan and system that is easy to implement and doesn’t take me more than 10-15 minutes for every blog post. It should also be something that can be used on any type of blog so you ,dear reader, can implement parts of this strategy yourself.

The strategy I’ve come up with is liable to change so what I’ve done is create a series of videos of what I am doing now, as things change or improve I can then replace or add to the videos rather than recording a whole new video.

Each video is going to be between 2 and  5 minutes long so you can pick and choose the ones you need to suit you rather than having to sit through lots of content thats not relevant.

You’ll find the first video below and the other videos I recorded are posted on a page inside the blog. To get access please click on the facebook like button below the video, the link to the remaining videos will then be revealed to you… sneaky!

There are currently 3 more Videos In this series If you would like to see them click on like and you’ll find the video list revealed.

Let me know what you think and what you’ll be doing to get your sites ranking, This strategy won’t be a quick fix it is a long term strategy that will build momentum over time, Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither were top ranking sites. Persevere and stick with it. It will work.

Mark that is exactly what I have been doing for a some time. The fact that you are (sales people term) in ‘your face’ not only gets more traffic but it is a constant reminder that you are the “go to” guy.

With the new Google changes, this is more natural link building and site promotion than anything else. A good practice is to subscribe to a set of blogs through Google reader and get alerts when there is a new post so you can be “everywhere” but be the “first”…

Rob, another thing I should have mentioned is to use the same profile picture for everything, it helps you be instantly recognizable

In fact… according to Daniel Tan’s latest SEO report it’s a must-do… Always use the same email to get the same Gravatar and that will create “authorship” in the eyes of Google …which equals authority.

Good point about the picture 😉

Quick question Mark.. so you haven’t even gone out and commented on other blogs to draw attention to your own? If you are a new blog or new website its hard to gain that ‘traction’ you have seen over the past few months.

What would you suggest someone whose only been blogging for a few weeks to do?

I do use commentluv to get some links back to posts, have a look at the video at the bottom of this post http://mjthompson.net/1367/monday-tip-3-ways-to-get-easy-backlinks/

To get traction just start engaging step by step, and also make sure your initial posts are keyword based, (see my how to write a blog post video from last monday) as i said in this post it’s not fast but 3 -6 months down the line you’ll be getting plenty of visitors

Thanks Mark for the tips. I’m also focusing on blog commenting, creating quality content and building natural links, as my blog is still pretty new (5 months old). This blog post and video is exactly what I need right now! Thanks again!

Hi Mark,

As usual I would like to thank you for this wonderful insights and video.
We can’t control the “Google wind” but at least we can adjust our “internet marketing sails”.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the mini-course.

I have found it quite difficult and time consuming to keep up with
all the social accounts so hopefully I can streamline that a bit now.

Hi Mark,

The new thing i have learn from you is that i have to share others good content. I have the habit of sharing my content over the internet, means social media and others. But what i have missed is sharing others content. That is really valid point and am really happy to correct a mistake that i have made and the video is really nice.
