I'm in the UK and the BBC lunchtime news has just said that although high street spending is down on last year, internet spending is up and showing no sign of reducing. The internet is obviously the place to be if your prices are right.

I am sure you are correct paul, sites like amazon and ebay will prosper while some of the more expensive high street and online stores will lose sales.

As an indication a chain of shops here in spain generally priced their clothes at €60 to €90 I was in there today and the prices are €15 to €30.. not sale prices retail..

Also premium branded products I was selling last year for $150 are losing sales to similar products selling at half the price

I am sure a lot of people are listening to all the doom and gloom and thinking that no one will be spending any money at christmas. I just read a report that said the spending for xmas is expected to rise 2.2% this year, which will be the lowest amount since 2002 but it is still an increase.

As people get busier and are looking to make the money stretch further they will go online more and more looking to make the best purchases they can so I think this year will see more money being spent online than ever before.
