Internet Marketing Awards

By Mark / December 18, 2012

superhero yenAs this will probably be the last blog post this year  ( I may have time to do a podcast and I might pick a few choice post from the last year and publish them) I decided that I would give out some awards.

I’d love to make this a tradition and you my dear reader are more than welcome to make your own nominations in the comments area.

You’ll be glad to know that in the tradition of the best awards presentations I am sat here in my tuxedo and bow tie, looking like a slightly overweight James Bond.

Let me just state that these award are based solely on my own personal views and so will more than likely differ from yours. They are also a chance for me to publicly acknowledge people who are “Doing it Right”

Lets get started with the first award.

Marketer Of the Year

I had to think long and hard about this one there were lots of new marketers appearing on the scene and some established ones who came up with some great ideas.

However when it came down to it there was only one I could choose.

Winner Michael Christon

Michael brought a whole new dimension to Internet Marketing with high quality content, some of the best promotional videos seen to date, on top of that his willingness to help others made him the no brainer choice.

He’s raised the bar on product creation and forced everyone to raise theirs. On top of that his products are dragging Internet Marketing into the 21st century with proven techniques and methods from the offline world.

I promoted his W.A.A.R Report (Winning Articles and Reports) earlier in the year and had nothing but praise for it from my subscribers and forum members.

Sales Page of the year

I thought this category was sewn up months ago by Natan Barry and his App Design Handbook, I like it so much it was the basis for the design of my own Email Marketers Handbook.  ( I do think I’ve improved on it!)

However at the last minute I saw the following sales pages and the originality almost won through

Facebook Farenheit

A Facebook product using a Facebook like Timeline is genius..  I think I’ll go and sell my twitter book in 140 characters or less 😉

However when I went through it there were too many issues… the video was too long winded and the videos broke the whole effect of the FB timeline . Why not use FB style video? It’s a Pity because it is very clever and showed out of the box thinking.

Maybe I should have a special category.. The dropped the ball award

Winner: Nathan Barry – App Design Handbook

Blog of the Year

This is a hard one…

The criteria for this one is simple, the blog must provide high quality content thats both informative and entertaining.

The short list came down to 3

Derek Halpern’s Social Triggers

Pat Flynn’s Smart Passive Income

Mike Thomas’s Mike From Maine

Once again I decided to go with a bit or originality, the winner is…….

Winner: Mike Thomas  (and not only because he’s interviewed me twice!)

I chose Mike because he brings fresh, educational and interesting content in the form of interviews, that I can download to my iPhone and listen to whenever I want.

You’ll learn something from every interview and since he started in september he’s had some excellent guests, including the other two nominees

Product of the Year

I am sure I am not alone in thinking that there are far too many products released. You see one original product then within  a month there are 4 or 5 similar ones which are usually lower quality than the original.

I chose the winner of this years award based on usability, support, innovation and development.

The winner is Hybrid Connect From Shane Melaugh

Throughout the year I have tested and used about 5 lead generation plugins, without a doubt HC generates more signups than any other.  It’s packed full of features that allow to to generate signups the way you want to. There are more Lead generation plugins on the market than almost anything else BUT Hybrid connect has all the must have features and frequently sets the standard.

Once again it’s a product that i’ve had nothing but good feedback about

Theme of the year

This one was easy… Ultimatum

Ultimatum is a theme that allows anyone to be a theme developer, want to do something different then use ultimatum, Dave “The Awesome” Toomey built my Email Marketers Handbook site using it and the ease of use is superb. If I need to add a section it’s simple and easy to do. There is a learning curve but you’ll never need to buy another theme.

Service of The Year

Without a doubt this goes to Dave Toomey, who can take my random ideas, disregard them and create awesome sites and membership areas.

For years i’ve wanted to put a very complicated sales funnel in place where all my products are easily accessible to subscribers and buyers. Now thanks to Dave thats possible.

My Tip of the Year

Throughout the year I’ve done a series of Monday Tips, which I hope will help you to succeed online there is one tip that above all others has helped my to drive increasing amounts of traffic to my sites and that is simple using Google Alerts properly.

The secret is to use the settings to have Google send you immediate alerts when ever there is a discussion with your keywords found.  The key there is discussion!  You’ll then get forum threads and blog comments that are relevant to your keywords, you simply pop over to the thread, add valuable good quality content ..not spam and either have a link to your site  or page in the signature or the content.

The Perfect Storm

As I was writing this I realised that you could use several of the category winners to create the perfect marketing medium

Take Michael Christons W.A.A.R report  and create a high quality reports and products based around your chosen niche.

Build a landing page using Ultimatum Theme or hire Dave Toomey to do it

Drive Traffic using the Google Alerts tip

Capture signatures using Hybrid Connect

Then market to them using the principles in my 500 Buyers report!

Thank you for your support this year , Have A Great Christmas, and I’ll see you in the New Year

Mike From Maine

Wow, Mark, thanks for choosing my site as Blog of the Year. It’s great to know that all the hard work I’ve been putting into it has been recognized.

I’d also like to point out that I got a big push last year from the WP Goldmine community. Thank you all for your support.

Mark this I love. With good reason I steer clear of shiny things so missed most of these and I;ll be doing some catching up on this post over the Christmas hols. Also I feel with good reason I steer clear of WSOs and the like but there’s one of these products I recently bought that’s worth it’s weight in platinum. It’s BlogDefender from JVZoo. You gave us your 2 cents worth on this blog security area a while back. I joined LAST Pass on the strength of your recommendation then. BlogDefender was for me total steal at $9-00 and must be still at whatever price it’s reached at this time. And I’ve enjoyed putting it into effect at every blog of mine. Keep up the good word.

Love the Awards concept.

The Google Alerts usage tip is very helpful. I also use the -[negative keyword] syntax to filter out words I DON’T want that are often paired with my search terms. For example, I have an alert for a zip code, but I have to add “-MLS” to keep from getting flooded with real estate listings in that zip. Of course a realtor might use “+MLS”.

But anyway, good stuff. Happy New Year!

Thank you Mark,

It dawned on me that I’ve thanked you in person and on WPGM but not as a comment here..where I got the award 🙂

I am in great company and it has been a privilege working with you over the last year.

Dave
