Dreams Or Goals? What are you Chasing?

By Mark / April 7, 2010

When I sat down to write this post I had a number of topics I was thinking of covering.

Murphys Law:- Why You have a network error that takes your sites down 5 minutes after sending an email to 7000 people… it only took 26 hours to fix!

Marketing Morons:- The people who have come up with a “loophole that guarantees you a 10 google position”… hmmm ok that “loophole” been one of the keystones of the system we teach in The WordPress Goldmine forum for 2 years. On top of that it’s not a loophole just commonsense. But then I don’t suppose you can sell anything based on commonsense.

However I decided to stick with something positive and touch on what I talked about in a recent email that I sent out the difference between dreams and goals.

Do you have a dream that drives you? I think most people do, a nice home, a fast car and great lifestyle etc . The problem with dreams is that they tend to always stay just that a fantasy, unless you do something about it. The something you have to do is to take your dream and turn it into a set of goals.

Goals are achievealbe and dreams are just a notion you have of something you want. Once you convert your Dream to a goal you can then work out the method to achieve the goal.

You will be very suprised at just how easy those dreams are to attain once you convert them to goals. It might take a while to actually get your dream but it will happen.

Here are some examples:

Dream : I want a BMW x6

Goal : I will generate an extra $600 a month to pay for the leasing costs on an X6

Daily Target: $20

Method: Write 2 articles a day and generate an extra 1 clickbank sale each day

Dream: I want a Villa overlooking the sea.

Goal: I want to generate $6000 per month to pay for a $1,000,000 mortgage (or you could rent)

Target $200 per day ($8.33 per hour)

Method: I will build a network of 50 adsense sites averaging $4 a day

The next step is the hardest for most people…actually doing it.

The key to this is to surround yourself with positive people who are actually working towards their goals and sharing the sucesses and most importantly not dwelling on setbacks. If you go into forums where there are loads of people being negative then leave, don’t let their negativity and neurosis hold you back.

If you can honestly answer yes to these 3 questions then you are just a few steps away from success.

1. Do you really want to succeed?

2. Are you really prepared to work

3. Will you really Focus on Your goals and not give up?

If you answered yes to those 3 questions you are welcome to download my Report called “I can”. There nothing to subscribe to , no hoops to jump through. It was originally released in 2008 but I gave it a quick update recently. http://mjthompson.net/ICan/

Mark,

Thanks for the update. I read the previous version of your report but this was a good refresher. Fighting perfectionism is a big stumbling block for me and you certainly helped me recognize that.

This is great advice. I love this idea of breaking the big goal down into how much you need to earn each day to cover it and then looking at what you can do to achieve that dollar amount.

Stumbled you – I’m sure lots of people would value reading this.

Mark,
Pot pie girls sent me an email with the Article Dominance information. The sell page is a little strange. Could you please go to my website and see what I mean, I would really appreciate some input as this is my first one and I don’t know if it’s going to go anywhere.
Thank you
susan

Hi susan, not sure what you mean that the sales page is weird…do you mean it’s not 10 miles long and full of bull? 🙂 If thats your first attempt at a site it’s a really good start, you just need to drive traffic to it now. personally I prefer to use my own hosted blogs but I know people who do well with squidoo

Hi Mark, No it’s not weird, and I like your view on everything you have written.
The margins seem smaller than the print, or is it supposed to be that way?
Thank you for looking at the site, I’m 67 years old and wanted to try something
different. Now to get some traffic to it.

Thanks for the report Mark! Very, very true. All of it. Positive thinking and action means everything. I had lost a business that was 12 years old and successful about 3 years ago. I was doomed, and lost my pride. But I was always one for positive thinking, and endless hours of work. This is how I feel about IM. I put as much as I can into it. And in the end I hope to get that much out of it.

And I believe I WILL!

Now wonder your successful Mark, You found and have the right attitude.

Thank You,
Warren

How very true. I think all of us have been guilty of dreaming at some stage of our business development without actually breaking it down in to achievable targets and objectives. This article reminds people to stay focused and keep chipping away at business development and promotion. That way the dream will become reality.

whats up, mark?

I’ve been ding this Im thing 4 about a year and a half now. Had some successes here and there. Got a couple of paychecks from clickbank. But theres a couple of things I have to say. 1st of all I didnt get a paycheck until i followed potpiegirls OWM plan. I was originally a profit lance student. There’s nothing wrong with PL, it just didnt work for me. I appreciate PL because I studied the hell out of it and was able to understand everything that Potpie girl talked about in her OWM plan.

I never had a problem writing, It seems to me thats where some of the complaints come from. I actually like to write. But after watching a video of yours where you wrote an article in 8 minutes. The way that you did it, the order, struck a cord in me. I began writing my articles that way, and I found that my thoughts come out more freely. Now i have written more articles and find myself more eager to do this vital piece of any online campaign. Thanx!

Im glad that I did open that email and Im glad that Im able to continue writing. You are right, if you want to be successful at this Im thing, you have to turn off the TV and the other distractions. They will only hamper what you are trying to do! Keep up the good work, and i look forward to more information from you in the future!

I have a large sign saying “$200” taped to my monitor, reminding me that $200 a day is my objective, but I’m a long way short – $2 is closer to the mark.
Seeing Kenneth’s comment about watching you write an article in 8 minutes also struck a chord, and I went rushing to my copy of Goldmine – I was sure I’d seen it there.
But no joy.
Was it part of the package? Or has Alzheimer’s Lite struck again?

Mark,

Loved the “I Can” report when it came out, thanks for the update.

The natural progression from “I Can” is “I Will”.

Writing down goals every day is critical to stay on track. Weekly/monthly/yearly goals are equally important. I had my first real breakthroughs in the last half of 2009 by doing so.

One more thing with goals … read them aloud. It really does make a difference hearing goals in your own voice! Jim
