Imagine if you had sat down 1 year or 2 years ago and decided to learn the guitar or piano and you had practiced regularly since the day you started. By now you would probably be quite accomplished. Now switch that around and imagine if today was day one and you wanted to master the piano or guitar. I imagine that you would be quite daunted by the prospect and after 30 minutes of practice you would probably think that you would never be able to get a tune out of that lump of wood.

Making money online is a lot like the scenario above and just like learning a musical instrument many people give up because they can never see them mastering the techniques required to play at a reasonable level. If you had started to try to make money 2 years ago then by now you would probably be earning a good income if you had focused on the task. The same applies now, if you start today within a year or 2 you will be earning a regular sustainable income, the secret is to think longterm and not give up.

When I started my online career on September 5th 2005 didn’t know what I had ahead of me. The first few months I made maybe $100, 90% of my income came from adsense. But I was constantly looking ahead trying to imagine what it would be like in 2 years time. Last month I earned money from 6 or 7 sources some only paid a few hundred dollars while others paid several thousand dollars. Some of the income came from sites a few weeks before other were from sites I built a year ago.

My focus for this year is to generate an extra $1000 a week..in 2009. The time involved in this is only about 5 or 6 hours a week. I intend to do this by creating a new affiliate site every week and then write submit 10-15 articles for it. At the end of the year I’ll have 52 sites each hopefully selling 1 product a week on average at $20 commission. If I select the correct affiliate products then this target is easily achievable as many of my currents sites already sell between 2 and 4 products per week.

So come on forget the short term income and focus on the longterm
