So You Think You Know SEO?

Don’t Google make life interesting!!

One day you are at the top of the rankings the next you are floundering in the lower reaches of page 17.  You look to see what’s replaced you at the top spot and you find a completely horrible blog with duplicate content and multiple streams of income plastered all over the page… Surely this can’t be what Google wants?/

It’s not , It’s just that despite what they might have you believe the Google Algorithm is not perfect , they adjust one factor and it in turn affects others.

So lets see what works, lets see if we can grab that panda by the neck and crush it into submission.

Here is the plan.

Between August the first and September the 30th Myself and members of the WordPress Goldmine Forum are going to try everything we can to get sites ranked at the top of google and keep them there. We’ll choose several niches and then try various methods of promotion.

This won’t be one of those SEO competitions where you try to rank a stupid expression with no competition at number 1 , these will be real niches with real competition. Even if you don’t win you should have created a site that earns you a good income .

At the end I’ll work the person who has retained the top spot for the longest time and we will create an in-depth case study or what works now and what doesn’t. We’ll then sell the report and split the income between us. On recent results this should earn the lucky winner $2,500- $4,000 and provide a springboard to IM stardom if they want it… Simon Cowell eat your heart out.

Pop into WPG and register your interest in the following thread; http://wpgoldmine.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=9628

I’ll then create a special Forum and give all the people who expressed an interest access.

There are several things that are currently working well with google I’ll document them in the thread so that everyone has an equal chance. Don’t for a moment think that this will be a case of he who builds the most links wins…it won’t  I recently got to the top spot in google with less than 50 links.

Come and join in the fun and learn to conquer google.

Links are great, but I increasingly believe that well themed content works just about as well in getting a page to rank high on Google.

If you analyse the top 10 results in Google for any term, you will find a core set of highly relevant theme words, LSI words if you prefer, on the basic topic of the page. And when you look at the top 20, 50, 100, 200 and so on, results, you will find this core set of theme words in there, but in ever decreasing numbers.

In other words, the best themed content can be found at the top of Google for any given keyword. This stands to reason, and well themed content survived the Panda update better than “ordinary” content that had hundreds of back links.

Google likes pages with good back links, but it increasingly likes well themed content, with or without back links, too.

John.

I was just researching what I thought was a pretty mainstream, competive niche. For a not too long tail keyword, I found on the first page of Google:-

Hubpages

Squidoo

Ezine Articles

Articlebase

Plus one truly horrendous affiliate site.

Good luck trying to work out what google wants. I am focusing methods that don’t rely on them.

Rich, I’d be straight into that niche … I’d hope to be top 3 in a few weeks with that sort of competition…If you don’t use it send me a call via the helpdesk and i’ll see what i can do with it 🙂 http://beyondcommission.zendesk.com/home
