I’ve not had a rant for a long time, I started to think I was starting to mellow in my old age…wrong!

Jonathan Leger made a post on his JL Forums today about the latest google update in it he said that a lot of old sites that shouldn’t be on the first page of google were now appearing. and he gave an example:

Overall Affect: Old Sites With Less SEO Ranking Better

Lots of old sites are being resurrected into the search results, apparently because they have been less optimized. Google has been saying for a while that they would be going after over-optimized sites. That’s fine, but it’s sadly pushing a lot of really poor quality stuff into the search results, at least for the queries I’m following. Stuff that simply should not be in very highly competitive results is ranking well.

I mean, seriously, THIS page is ranking on page one for “bicycle wheels”?

Please go and look at that page and click on any of the articles that are linked to from it. I especially like the wheel building one.

If thats poor quality what on earth is good quality!

Now that you’ve read it please tell me why that site shouldn’t be on the front page of google?? In fact If I owned google I would put that page at #1

I accept that it’s a damn ugly site but not all of us are web designers, when that site started 17 years ago Wordpress wasn’t even a glint in it’s mother eye.

The wheel building article alone is 10,000 words of unique content and if you were building a wheel it has everything you could need in it. The site provides an amazing resource for all things related to cycling and building bikes.

The site hasn’t been built to make money it’s been built to help people and provide information the monetization was a secondary consideration. It’s exactly what google wants on the front page of google, the site has over 1,200 Facebook fans and you just know they weren’t bought for $5. You just also know he hasn’t used spun content and SEnuke to get thousands of backlinks.

So Mr Leger please explain why this site shouldn’t be on the first page of google?

I honestly can’t think why any marketer would begrudge a site like that a top 10 ranking. Unless of course it’s keeping their crappy MFA sites with 5 pages of perfectly spun content that don’t give value off the front page.

Far from decrying Mr Sheldon Brown I want to stand up an applaude him for the effort he’s put into the site, I want to hold him up as an example of the type of sites you should be creating (maybe use wordpress and a nice themes though!)

Let me make myself clear I have nothing personal against Jonathan Leger or nothing against MFA sites , hell I have enough of them myself but what I do object to is marketers who make their money from MFA sites and spun content saying in a public post that a “real” site shouldn’t be on the front page of Google.

We as Marketers do not have the divine right to be on the front page of google if google are making it more difficult for MFA sites to rank then we need to adapt not cry and whinge in forums that our sites have dropped 30 places and a horrible looking site has got to page one.

I’ve been saying it for a while now, you have a choice , play by Google’s rules or play a different game.

So should that site be in the top 10 for wheel building? Feel free to tell me I am an idiot and Jonathan is 100% correct!

The consensus of opinion seems to be that one of the reasons for the AdSense accounts being closed is that google doesn’t like people who set out to earn lots of money from AdSense revenue by creating hundreds of niche blogs.

For a change I can actually see their point, from experience I know that once you start getting a lot of sites you struggle to keep them updated and fresh. That’s not to say that Micro sites don’t have a place, after all I still have a lot of 3 , 4 and 5 page sites but I do think that maybe you should carefully consider what you build in the future.

What I want to discuss today is which is better Micro Niche sites or Authority sites, … I say discuss because I want your views on this.

I wan’t to be as impartial as possible and I’ll put forward the pro’s and cons for each type of site. For the purposes of this I am going to call any site with less than 10 posts a Micro Niche site.

What is a Micro Niche Site?

Essentially a Micro Niche Site is a site that is quick and easy to create, You build it , get some backlinks and then move on to the next site the process is as follows

Find a keyword with 1000+ searches a month.

Find & buy exact match domain.

Create or outsource some content

Build backlinks

Move on and repeat 100′s of times

After that you sit back and hope that it makes a few dollars a day on each site

Micro Niche sites are quick and easy to build and you can take a shotgun approach if you wish. Generally speaking they will make you money and you’ll generally recover your costs in a few months. They can be easily scaled up, by outsourcing all the processes to cheap overseas workers.

Nobody should ever pretend that that Micro niche sites are built for any other reason but to make money and I think that this is why google doesn’t like them. Micro Niche sites should be looked on as a short term strategy, they still work but I do feel that they may soon struggle to be as effective as they were.

What Is an Authority Site

An Authority site is a site that has a lot of content, is frequently updated and focusses on a much broader niche than micro sites (think of the difference between a pamphlet and a magazine). You need to regularly update them and you should try to connect with your readers.

Find a group of 3-10 keywords with a large number of searches these are your main categories.

Find a generic domain name or brand type name you can use

Launch the site with 10 or more pieces of content in place

Post Content regularly and target every keyword in that niche

Build links to each post and have a social media strategy that you apply to each piece of content

Focus on a core of 5 -10 sites.

Authority sites are a long term strategy and take time and effort to get established, with a low number of sites you do run the risk of being more affected by any algorithm changes. However by building a list of subscribers and a strong Social media presence for each of your authority sites you can eventually become pretty much immune to Googles changes.

Building Authority sites does give you the ability to target every keyword in a niche over time, the main difference between them and Micro niche sites is that you would build a Micro niche site around “Dog Training Collars” but an Authority site around “Dog Training” and within the authority site you would plan to have 1 or 2 articles about Dog Training Collars at some point.

Authority Or Micro Niche Sites?

From a personal point of view I am now focusing on authority style sites, some of which are former Micro sites that I am upgrading and expanding. But I really want to hear your views on this debate as I do feel it’s extremely important and something that we all should be paying attention to.

Do you think that Google wants to kill off Micro Niche sites either now or in the Future

Should you have a Mix of Authority sites and Micro niche sites?

Is Authority Sites the best way forward?

Should we just do what we want and ignore Google?

Let me know what you think?

In fact the reason I am writing this post is that I didn’t have a clue what to write about today! So I grabbed my faithful old Moleskine notebook and wrote a draft outline in bed this morning. When you are stuck for something to write about consider one of these 7 methods to get some great content.

Newsflash**** I just finished writing this and I discovered that another of the members at WordPress Goldmine have broke the $100 a day barrier. It’s posts like Mikes that make everything worthwhile…well done Mike .

You can read about his journey and hopefully be motivated by it at http://mikefrommaine.com/first-100-adsense-day/

Back to the post..

1. Create a List

People love lists so whenever you are stuck for something to write about then come up with a list of 3 , 5 or 7 things. 3 Ways to Unblock Your Toilet, 5 simple ways to Clear Acne in 48 Hours, 7 Spells That Will Have Your Ex Back.

Lists are generally quick and easy to write.

2. Schedule Posts

I usually schedule posts for about 2 weeks ahead, I sit down and come up with a list of 6 topics , write them on my white board and let them sit there until it’s time to write them. Because I know whats coming I spend time thinking about what I can add to the post to bring value. The reason I have 6 topics is that I try to write on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday and often I’ll try to theme the posts. Monday I’ll give Tips , Wednesday a commentary about an aspect of the niche I am in and friday something to get people thinking over the weekend.

3. Recycle Old Posts

Look at posts you wrote a year or more ago and see how you can improve them, Most of your visitors won’t have read the content before, I’d be lucky if more than 20 of the people reading this post had read my 5 Truths About Internet Marketing Post from July 2010. Your audience constantly changes so feel free to update your old content and put a new spin on it.

4. Curate Content

Good old curation it can get help you smash through that writer block or should that be blogger block?

10. Comprehensive Pillar Posts

This one never gets old. If you’re looking to establish your presence online, one of the best things you can do to stand out is to start creating some epic blog posts.

A ‘pillar’ article is generally longer than the traditional blog post (1,000+ words). This sort of ‘flagship content’ is a comprehensive article dripping in value.
Source

I am sure Pat Flynn won’t mind me posting part of his great article on Blog post templates. Curation doesn’t mean that you copy the other persons complete post but take bit of it and add your views. I am sure you know what the signal to noise ratio is when referring to radio signals.

Although not as prevalent today there used to be a time when you got a lot of hiss and crackle when listening to the radio and it was difficult to hear the radio signal. Well what good curation does is remove the noise and just leave the signal. Just stick to the 3 golden rules .. Don’t copy all the content, Add value and add a link back to the source.

4. Interview Someone

People love to be interviewed, write out 5 simple questions and send it to people in the same niche as you. So for example if you were in the fitness niche write 5 questions about fitness and send it to 5 separate personal trainers not only will you have great content and a regular article you can write you’ll also have content you can add to a book give away to build a list.

Ask questions like: Tell us about yourself? Why did you become a personal trainer? Have you always been fit? Whats the best success story you’ve been involved with, do you have 1 Golden tip for our readers? How can our readers find out more about you?

Do you think anyone in business could resist answering those questions especially if you always include the last question on that list.

5. Get a Guest Blogger In

Contact someone you know in the same niche and ask them if they’d like to write a guest post for you, If they are serious about blogging they will jump at the chance!

6. Do a Review of a Product

Find a product related to your niche and review it, If you blog is established write to the manufacturer or publisher and ask them if you can have one to review. After you do a few you’ll wake up to find emails like this one in your inbox

Hello
We have a golf training aid which we would like you to evaluate. We would also like the contact details for the appropriate person so that we can submit press releases and news items to.
If you could also include a contact email, physical address and telephone number I’d be grateful.

7. Find an Infographic and Write About it!

Infographics are a great way of finding ideas for blog content. Just like with content curation you can pick one or two items from the infographic and give your ideas or your views on it.

If you have the resources then you can also create your own, the upside of that is that you could get lots of links back to your site as a result of the infographic.

Creating a niche site isn’t difficult, Seo isn’t difficult , Keyword research isn’t difficult so why do we all (myself included) make things so difficult that we sometimes struggle to get it right?

What’s difficult about creating a site? Install WordPress with a few clicks of a button, add a simple theme , add some plugins that do things we need then add content. Voila that’s it… why the hell did I then spend 2 hours yesterday getting a header in the right place on a blog and reorganizing the sidebar?

Have a look at the quote below, can you guess when I wrote that? last month? last year when panda hit? Wrong I wrote that back in 2007

Taking things back to basics also means you can react to situations quicker, if Google tweaks their algorithm again. Also by keeping things simple you are doing what the search engines want you to do. Which do you think Google finds more appropriate a wordpress blog updated 3 or 4 times a week with unique content or a generated site with multiple pages of PLR content and random rss feeds added?
Read more: http://mjthompson.net/57/want-to-make-money-online-the-keep-it-simple

Lets all make an effort to build a blog this week and keep it simple I mean really simple. Then see how it performs.

Keyword Research

Find 3 keywords that you think you can write about without much effort.

Forget finding a specific number of searches, thats irrelevant, what counts is how much you’ll make when someone clicks on an Adsense ad so take the number of searches and multiply it by the adsense CPC. If it comes to $3000 or more consider it. Look at the top 10 results in google, have they been updated recently? Do they look very professional? Do they have loads of social media interaction.

If the answer is no to all 3 then Use the keyword.

Create Your Site

Set up Wordpress and Use the 2011 theme, put a recent posts widget in the sidebar and add no more than 6 plugins. Choose wisely!

Create Content

Write 3 articles based around your 3 keywords. Post them to your blog. Now set aside 30 minutes every day for the next month (5 days a week) to write one article per keyword. Don’t worry about article length just make sure you create good content.

Simplify SEO

We are going to keep this simple, no more than 15 minutes a day.

First off get your onsite seo as good as you can so one of those plugins should be an SEO plugin

When you write a post, link to it in Facebook, Google + Linkedin. Tweet about it, and do some blog commenting. Take one of the articles you posted on your blog the previous week and post it to an article directory BUT link it to a new article (not the same article).

Do the things you have forgotten about, Article Marketing , Yahoo answers, press releases, use forum signatures etc.

Read Store Coaches Insanely simple seo plan for ideas and adapt it to your situation

Without further ado (whatever that means), here’s my insanely simple SEO plan:

Post at least once a week in 2 different authority forums in your market

Post as a “researching shopper” in 2 forums per month

Answer at least 1 ‘Yahoo Answers’ question a week

Post 1 article a month on an authority article directory

Post 1 press release a month

Post once a week on your on-site blog

Post once a week on your off-site blog

Get at least 5 social network links per month

Get at least 2 “personal or hobby site” links per month

Get at least 1 guest article posted per month

Using this plan & this plan alone you should be able to get to the top of Google for your targeted keyword phrase

Once your keywords are researched and your site is built then you only need to focus on 2 things content creation and then SEO. Get up 30 minutes earlier and go to bed 30 minutes later and you have all the time you need. Take time when you are sat on a bus or train or drinking a coffee to jot down ideas for articles or indeed write the articles.

Keep it simple and i think you’ll be surprised at the results.

If you missed the original survey you can see it at: http://mjthompson.net/1350/monday-tip-give-your-readers-what-they-want/

The results were quite interesting and very enlightening and were actually very useful and have resulted in me planning some changes to the way I do things around here.

First off I now have a much better understanding of my average user…or at least the average user who wanted to fill in the survey, Lets call him Joe as there is a 62 % chance he is a guy.

Joe is over 40 (70%) and self employed (25% full time IM and 38% self employed non IM). He currently earns under $50,000 per month (78%) but wants to earn over $500 per day online 50% (this is very revealing as the last time I did a survey a few years back he wanted to earn $200 a day). The biggest thing thats holding him back is lack of motivation and focus 34%, Joe considers Content Creation and Traffic Generation 23% & 22% to be the key skills he needs.

So Is that you? Are you my average reader?

I learned 2 things from the survey…

The main thing I learned from the survey is that the average person doesn’t like to do surveys

But the 2nd thing is the most important, I need to tailor some of the tips and advice I do so that it covers specific areas and to allow people to get tips and advice on areas that matter to them. i.e I need some sort of way to deliver personalized tips and advice so that will be my project for later in the month.

One of the things that people mentioned that they struggled to create content, it just so happens that 3 years ago (almost to the day) I did a blog post about how to write content in under 10 minutes.

You can find that post at: http://mjthompson.net/257/how-to-write-an-article-in-under-10-minutes/

Have a great easter and I’ll be back with a new post on Tuesday

{EAV:b5ea199a35c60514} (ignore this..just validating something )

Many people probably think that I sit down and just write a blog post in a single stream of consciousness. Well you’d be partly right. Some of the posts here are like that, I have an idea for a post and sit down and write it then post it. 45 minutes job done.

However if you want to write a blog post properly then you are going to have to set aside some time. A good original blog post takes time and effort to get right. I am talking 3 or 4 hours here. However the effort is worth it., a good blog post like that will rank well and draw visitors to your site.

I am not saying that every blog post needs to be like that but every 3 or 4 blog posts you should spend more time than normal creating it and make sure that you have everything right from the start. It’s wednesday morning and i am writing this post knowing that I have up to friday morning to get it right.

This article is aimed mainly at those of you who have personal blogs but anyone can learn lessons from this post and hopefully apply them to all your blogs.

First Step – Back to Basics

Yep we are going to do some keyword research. So it’s off to the google keyword tool and lets see what we can find for the keyword “write a blog”

The first thing I do is to set up some filters

You can see that I’ve chosen Low Competition keywords with between 5000 and 1,000,000 searches per month.

That returned 56 related keywords of which about 40 could have been used as the basis of an article.

However 2 stood out , I’ll tell you now those figures are probably not accurate but we need to use something so lets use them and monitor results for ourselves.

So Lets choose “How To Write a Blog Post” and see what we are going to be up against

If you go to google you’ll see blog posts by people like Darren Rowse of Problogger fame, and Seth Godin, that is enough to scare a lot of people off however our first target is to get onto the first page so we need to analyse all 10 front page results.

You can do this manually or with browser plugins or tools. I look for a number of things mainly Onsite SEO, social signals and offsite SEO. We are only looking for 2 or 3 weak sites in the top 10 then we’ll know that we can get there ourselves.

I used the same tool I used in SEO Debunked to analyse the top 10 (serpiq) and lo and behold we have some weakness there, I also noticed that very few of the top 10 have the exact match keyword in the title.. a very good indicator. That means that the on page SEO is not very strong for most of the sites won’t be very good.

So lets go for it, lets target the keyword How To Write a Blog Post.

Step Two – Writing The Content

There should be 2 parts to your content. The Words and the Images you need to find a good image that will grab peoples attention when they are browsing. Many people use ipads and phones to read blog content, apps like Pulse news and Flipboard will use your images a good image draws people in.

There are many places to get images from I use photoxpress but you can also search for flickr images that have creation commons licenses a good source is Compfight.com which allows you to search flicker for photo’s with creative commons licenses.

When I start to write the content I first start by laying out section headers and adding the title to the top of the page,so for this post the first items to go on the page were:

How To Write a Blog Post

Introduction

Research

Writing

Promotion

Conclusion

That then give me the freedom to write sections out of order if I wish.

If you need inspiration or some further ideas now is the time to start doing some searches and reading blogs, note i said Inspiration not copy someone post verbatim!.

I usually start with a note pad next to me an write down ideas I get from other articles, I find that just writing 1 or 2 words is enough to allow me to be totally unique they act a bit like a car key, it will get the car started but I’ll then go on my own journey.. hope that makes sense.

Final Step – Promotion

Now you have your beautifully crafted blog post you need to promote it…sorry about that! Start by posting it to your twitter account , google + and you facebook page. Get it out there If you can also do a short video to go with it, get that on YouTube or Vimeo and link back to your site.

Thats phase one of promotion, next get out and do some comments linking back to your post, that will work 2 fold firstly you’ll get a link back to your post, and secondly you’ll get visitors who may become subscribers and life time readers.

If you have time then why not write a related post and offer it as a guest post to busy sites in your niche.

Be sure to get your post shared on twitter, facebook etc

Creating good quality blog posts and promoting them properly can be time consuming but I can guarantee if you do 1 high quality post a week or every 2 weeks on your blog and follow through with the promotion you’ll soon start to become regarded as the authority in your niche and when that happens you won’t need to promote your post your subscribers will do it for you!

If you enjoyed this post please share it and leave a comment…

Times change and if you fail to change with them then you’ll be left behind.

When I first started all that you needed to get a site ranked well was a bit of link building and a few keywords in the header of your site. Those times are long gone as As we found out when we did the SEO Debunked case studies there is a lot more involved in getting your sites ranking high in google.

There are 3 main aspects that you need to focus on.

On Page SEO – Thats basically creating good quality content and making sure that you have good basic SEO, keywords H1 tags and a sensible keyword density (I look for 0.75% to 1% anything more can look like keyword stuffing and read badly)

Off Page SEO – Basically your backlinks . You don’t need hundeds of poor quality links. Try for good a handful of good quality links a week you’ll be surprised at how well they can help you rank.

Social Signals – Under estimate this at you peril.

As I said in the first line of this post times change, more and more weight is being put on social signales by google. Put yourself in Googles shoes for a moment, they know that people have the ability to build links on an industrial basis. I can go and have 20,000 verified links by tomorrow to this post for $75 or 500,000 unverified for $39.95. So why should google pay any attention to links?

What would you do in Googles position? Look for some other indicators that you are connecting with your readers? thats what i’d do.

They have several metrics they can use Bounce rate & time on site to name just two BUT they can also track social signals.

How many tweets does a post have, how many times is it liked in Facebook, how many plus 1′s does it have , how many comments etc etc.

What I am trying to say here is you need to manage your social signals, just as much as you manage on page and off page seo.

Once you start to manage them you can start to ensure you get exactly the social signals you need For example If you want to find out how I would get 500,000 links in a day (if I was stupid enough to try it click on the like button below and all will be revealed… literally!

<fb:like href="http://mjthompson.net/1395/the-3-pillars-of-seo-get-your-sites-ranking/" layout="standard" show-faces="false" width="450" height="24px"></fb:like>

I'd search google for : Xrumer Blast

See how easy it can be to get links, plus ones and tweets?

To manage them you need to track them. Watch the video below to see how I track them and how I’ll be ensuring that I manage all the social signals properly to help me rank higher.

If you like to know more about Social Metrics Pro then just click here

If you like it and buy through my link 2 things will happen ..

1. I might earn some commission from the sale.. thank you

2. If you send me your receipt via the helpdesk I’ll send you a free report I am creating about social signals and why they are important and how you can get them.

Finally don’t forget to send out some social signals by sharing this post and commenting… you know you want to!

I’ve had a great reaction to my last blog post and a lot of questions emailed to me which I’ll work my way through this weekend but I wanted to give you some motivation before we head into the weekend.

I had 2 emails on separate topics this week from subscribers of mine who are both Ladies in their 80′s (I am sure they won’t mind me mentioning that). Just think of that for a minute. One of the biggest things that hold people back or at least that people tell me holds them back is technology. Yet these 2 silver surfers have put aside anything that may stop them and made the effort to learn internet marketing.

C’mon guys if these women who should be spending time with their grand children can make the decision to make an income online you have no excuses! Seriously no excuses whatsoever.

So why not take a few hours this weekend, sit down and create something. Do it is could change your life.

In the past 2 weeks 2 of my members at WPG have taken the next step in Internet Marketing and created products, and then taken the important step of actually putting them out there and making money from them.

They’ve turned an Idea into an Income. They didn’t need to spend loads of money, they just used their brains, and the tools they had and created something with value.

Can any form of Income generation be easier?

First to step unto the plate was Lee, she created a product called Article Traffic Jackpot which gives you a simple easy to replicate method of creating income from articles. She had packed the product full of modules and included a spread sheet to help you track your progress and see whats working and what isn’t.

If you want to make some quick money online at under $10 this is pure value for money.

Next to launch his product was Paul, who tackled a subject close to my heart and gave it a twist…list building. Paul has been documenting his system which he calls Avalanche list Building inside WPG for a while now and it works. His system is incredibly simple you set it up you send traffic to it and then you get a steady stream of income. Once again this is under $9

There is nothing stopping you either applying these methods to your own business or even creating something similar this weekend.

As we are talking about products, I’ll let you into a little secret, when I first started creating products and dabbling in product sales I didn’t have a clue what I was doing, so I used to buy lots of products just to see what kind of sales processes people used. I took on board what was good and ditched what I didn’t like. I must have spent about $80 or more buying low cost products … guess what? I know marketers who paid $2000 for courses on how to do it.

When you go and buy a product, fire up a screen capture program (Jing is free) and record the process… it’s the best education you can get…. of course you could just go and buy all the $2000 products that come out

Have a great weekend

Over time you start to notice the the flaws and those little insignificant flaws become major issues sometimes the flaws become so much of an issue the cause the end of a relationship. Quite often the catalyst is noticing someone who doesn’t have that flaw that annoys the hell out of you.

In last mondays blog post I talked about looking outside the fish tank at the wider world. this was brought home to in a big way only yesterday. Over the past week I’ve been reading some great blogs by several Internet marketers who treat IM as an extension of “Real World” marketing. You find that as you read one blog you find a link to another great blog and so on.

It’s been like a breath of fresh air.

Then yesterday I opened up my email and there was an email from someone who I had bought a product off of a while back.. the title was:

”sudden death (NOT about Whitney Houston)”

I mean how low can you get? Who in their right mind would think that was a good subject line.

It got me thinking really hard about how short sighted and myopic the IM niche can be as opposed to Online Marketing (I’ve manufactured a distinction for the purposes of this article).

I love the IM niche I love to teach and show people how to make money online, I create products that show them how to do that and I like to think that I add value and that I have something worthwhile to say.

Over the past 7 years I’ve defended the IM niche from people who say it’s just full of scammers and people who want to rip off newbies. I consider myself incredibly lucky to have subscribers and customers and friends in the IM niche who I consider to be incredibly ethical who wouldn’t knowingly promote, create or support a bad product but I am starting to think that I am wrong.

I think it’s time to get out of this relationship as the flaws are annoying the hell out of me.

How about you?

Want to come on a journey of discovery with me, out of this stinking stagnating pond and into the wider world?

So where do we start?

Well you can start by paying attention to this… I’ll say it only once.

Take your excuses and shove them… There are no more excuses.

No , I haven’t got time – make time.

No, I can’t afford it – you can start this journey for less that a pizza and a beer.

No, I don’t know what to do.. create a blog, write good content, promote the blog via social media and guest blogging and BUILD A LIST, build a relationship and sell things via your list.

Let start on the journey by broadening our horizons.

Read the following post If it doesn’t get you thinking then maybe you aren’t cut out for this:

http://peterspaepen.com/2011/04/scott-schuman-story/#more-45

Over the coming months I am going to try to get away from IM, I’ll create some sites with value and attempt to generate an income from them. I’ll embrace transparency so you see my successes and failures . Are you coming on the journey?

Ok off to take my anti grumpy pills! Let me know what you think with a comment, and if you want to get updates then add your email address below… you won’t be spammed.. I promise!

Then going to another and seeing the same, and another , and another? How would you feel?

Well this is what happened to me earlier this week. On over 100 sites Not 1 AdSense ad was appearing.

How did I feel?

Elated! Yes seriously and that feeling shocked me.

I felt elated because the first thing that went through my mind was that I was finally free of having to update my sites, free of having to worry about what google was doing. That feeling shocked me as I had never thought about my beloved AdSense sites like that, I’ve had some of them since the first week I started in IM.

Unfortunately that feeling of joy and release didn’t last…. the ads came back along with an email from AdSense

This morning we had a brief outage for AdSense for Content that affected a small amount of publishers, and we apologize for the inconvenience. Our engineers worked diligently to identify and fix the problem, and all ad serving should now be resumed for your websites. If you’re still having issues seeing ads on any of your websites, please feel free to reply to this message and I will be happy to help you investigate.

Sincerely,

I guess that was a bit of a wake up call to me and showed me my real feelings about one of my businesses. Over the next few months I think I am going to bundle up my AdSense sites and sell them off in groups of 10 or 15.

I say one of my businesses because that is how I treat each aspect on my online endeavors. Before this I had decided to change the way I worked in 2012, I am developing and focusing on 1 new business for the first 4 months of the year, you’ll no doubt here a lot more about that in the weeks to come because it’s big and something completely different. I talked about it in the podcast I released yesterday which you can find on the blog or on iTunes if you want to subscribe to it.. just go to podcasts and search for “mjthompson”. That podcast is another key aspect of my new business model.

For me 2012 is going to be the year of reaching out, I’ve decided that I am going to reach out to subscribers and other internet marketers in a number of ways, the podcast is only the start I’ll be sharing the ups and downs of life as an internet marketer in it. I intend to fully document the new business in a series of monthly reports that will tell you exactly how I got the idea and how I generate the income and even what the income is… total transparency.

I really have had enough of some of the directions that Internet Marketing is going, and if I don’t like something I am going to try to do something about it….. stay tuned it could be a Interesting year.

Finally my Friend Andre Chaperon and his partner Steve are releasing their new “Tiny Little Business’s“ training course , It’s only available for 7 days and it comes with the highest recommendation possible from me. Even if you have no intention of buying it I urge you to look at the sales page and study it. You’ll learn more on the sales page than you will in many products I could name.

It really is a great way of marketing a product, the total opposite of the “Magic Button HYPE” type sales pages that most marketers think are necessary to sell their crap products.

Right I am heading back to the Batcave to continue my plans for world domination (sort of mixing my metaphors there!) How would you have reacted if you’d lost your Adsense? Let me know below!
