I had that on wednesday morning 16th May at 10.53 Central European Time.

A germ of an idea had always been there niggling away at me I just couldn’t get it to blossom into anything tangible. Then slowly at the London Warrior Gathering seminar over the weekend the idea was nurtured and started to grow.

The London Warrior Gathering was the “Perfect Storm” of ideas and circumstances. Peter Garety spoke about building a group of rabid fans by communicating and building a relationship with them. Michael Christon spoke about “Stop Selling you are Killing your Business” Oz talked about continuity and great support.

These are 3 things I’ve been doing in IM since day 1 and they just seemed like commonsense to me why are so few people doing it that way.. I seriously thought I had it wrong until then.

After my presentation which covered many of the points the other guys talked about several people said they would love to market the same way I do as they hate to feel that they need to constantly sell and send out promotional emails, they wanted to educate and train people not constantly sell to them .

Then last wednesday I found something that Brian Whitney said in 2004

I have a notion that we’re turning a corner (or experiencing a swing in the pendulum) where an artist who focuses on a smaller number of fans and serves them with a high level of direct interaction and communication will be the new model for success, even in the face of new technology and the shift in old school music business procedures.

I doubt that anyone reading this has heard about Brian Whitney, he runs a forum for artists and musicians called Just Plain Folks. It’s for the everyday musician and artist who aren’t well know and aren’t setting the world alight. The whole philosophy is that with just a small number of “true fans” you can replace your income and do what you love.

Lets rephrase what Brian said…

I have a notion that we’re turning a corner where an Internet Marketer who focuses on a smaller number of fans and serves them with a high level of direct interaction and communication will be the new model for success.

I have never wanted a 200,000 email list that I can spam every day,

I have never wanted to sell $2000 products.

I have wanted to communicate, educate and make a living while doing it

I have been doing that since 2007 and I believe that anyone can do it if they are prepared to invest the time and effort into sharing what they know.

The secret is turning customers and subscribers into what Brian Whitney call “True Fans” those are fans that will travel to as many gigs as possible , who will buy every Album and every single , who will even buy in merchandise like T-shirts and Mug’s

Instead of ”True Fans” I want to focus on building a core of ”True Customers” Every good Internet Marketer has these true customers already, all you need to do is to check out the WSO threads and you’ll see lots of comments like

” I didn’t even read the sales page”, ”As soon as I saw you had a new product I bought it”

These are True Customers and you get them by creating a relationship with your subscribers and customers. Peter Garety can sell 500 products in the first hour of a WSO launch because he focus’s on building relationships and helping his subscribers.

He has got there in under a year.

I met some of his “True Customers” in London who had flown in from the US just to meet him and have a chat, thats the sort of loyalty that ethical and honest marketing can generate

Lets do a little math.

I will assume that the average reader of this blog is earning $50,000 a year, thats a daily income of $136

Over the course of a year if you build a group of 365 True Customers who spend 1 days income a year on your products and recommendations (thats just over $11 per month) you will have replaced your income.

Now imagine if you had just 500 True Customers who were happy to spend $20, $30 or $40 a month on average with you because you delivered amazing value, wouldn’t that be better than building a list of 200,000 and spamming them every day?

I am currently creating some training about how you can build a core group of 500 True customers if you would like to know more check out the video at :

I’ve had a great reaction to my last blog post and a lot of questions emailed to me which I’ll work my way through this weekend but I wanted to give you some motivation before we head into the weekend.

I had 2 emails on separate topics this week from subscribers of mine who are both Ladies in their 80′s (I am sure they won’t mind me mentioning that). Just think of that for a minute. One of the biggest things that hold people back or at least that people tell me holds them back is technology. Yet these 2 silver surfers have put aside anything that may stop them and made the effort to learn internet marketing.

C’mon guys if these women who should be spending time with their grand children can make the decision to make an income online you have no excuses! Seriously no excuses whatsoever.

So why not take a few hours this weekend, sit down and create something. Do it is could change your life.

In the past 2 weeks 2 of my members at WPG have taken the next step in Internet Marketing and created products, and then taken the important step of actually putting them out there and making money from them.

They’ve turned an Idea into an Income. They didn’t need to spend loads of money, they just used their brains, and the tools they had and created something with value.

Can any form of Income generation be easier?

First to step unto the plate was Lee, she created a product called Article Traffic Jackpot which gives you a simple easy to replicate method of creating income from articles. She had packed the product full of modules and included a spread sheet to help you track your progress and see whats working and what isn’t.

If you want to make some quick money online at under $10 this is pure value for money.

Next to launch his product was Paul, who tackled a subject close to my heart and gave it a twist…list building. Paul has been documenting his system which he calls Avalanche list Building inside WPG for a while now and it works. His system is incredibly simple you set it up you send traffic to it and then you get a steady stream of income. Once again this is under $9

There is nothing stopping you either applying these methods to your own business or even creating something similar this weekend.

As we are talking about products, I’ll let you into a little secret, when I first started creating products and dabbling in product sales I didn’t have a clue what I was doing, so I used to buy lots of products just to see what kind of sales processes people used. I took on board what was good and ditched what I didn’t like. I must have spent about $80 or more buying low cost products … guess what? I know marketers who paid $2000 for courses on how to do it.

When you go and buy a product, fire up a screen capture program (Jing is free) and record the process… it’s the best education you can get…. of course you could just go and buy all the $2000 products that come out

Have a great weekend

There is a big difference between the way people go about their IM Businesses. At each end of the spectrum you have completely different styles, Some sit down and research a niche obsessively for weeks before they even attempt to build a site. Others will see a site on flippa or while doing a bit of browsing and immediately build a similar site.

In between those two are the majority of us. However we still differ widely in our approaches. some of us start by analyzing what we know about the niche we’ve chosen others will see a hot product and just dive in and create a site with very little if any research. If thats you then listen up… you are making a huge mistake.

When I first started with IM I didn’t have a clue what I was doing, I darted around niches like they were going out of fashion, one days i’d build a site on weight loss the next day it would be a site about acne, the next a site about hairless replacement. Why all those niches ?/ because they were “hot” everyone was doing them so they must be good..right? Wrong!

Luckily I soon started to realize that I was making a big mistake by chasing the so called hot niches so I made a conscientious decision to actually create sites about what i knew about and promote things that I needed and that i bought. Without knowing it I’d started to do market research. Looking at my successful sites at the moment and almost every single one is a site about something myself and my wife know about or are passionate about and each one is one that we have done market research on.

Seven or eight months ago, I was out for a sunday afternoon beer with Andre Chaperon and his wife and they had some friends with them, Mark Acutt and his wife. You might not recognize Marks name immediately but he is the guy who knew nothing about IM that Andre coached In the Affiliate Bully product a few years back. Myself and Mark A got to chatting and we had a lot of similar views about IM and IM products in particular..namely most of them sucked and did nothing to really help people master IM.

A few weeks later we decided to do something about it. Mark had a successful product called the Cash Bootstrap Method that taught IM so we took this and broke it down to the absolute basics. We then started to build it up layer by layer. Making sure we covered everything.

For example there are sections on

Market Research

Demographics

Social Media

PPC

SEO

Email Marketing

Business Plans

On top of that there are case studies which take all the different sections and show you how they all come together.

This course has take over 6 months to put together and we’ve left no stone unturned. Because we want you to be successful we have decided to distribute the training every few days using a system called distributed learning. This method ensures that you have time to study the particularly section you get then complete any tasks and then ask us any questions before you get the next section…this makes it much easier to follow and ensures that the course doesn’t just gather digital dust on your hard drive.

We are sure you’ll be impressed with the quality of the content but don’t take our words for it. You can access the first 2 lessons for free at http://cbminsiders.com/

Over the past few months I’ve heard lots of people start to get very disillusioned with Internet Marketing. Rampaging Panda’s, Google Slaps, Customers who think that it’s acceptable to ask for a refund no matter how much they like the product. (Hi Mark Loved the product, but I’m not going to have time to do anything for a few weeks as I am going on Vacation so can I have a refund… yes seriously I got an email like that!).

I’ve heard people say “Internet marketing is just a scam, the only people who make money are the guru’s ” There are a whole lot of reasons why people are getting disillusioned. But let me tell you something this is not new!

5 years or so ago I had about 200 sites that were earning me $5000 a month de-indexed from google overnight One day I was earning $170 from Adsense the next I was lucky to get $17 (Thanks Yahoo!)Yet 5 years later I am still here and earning much more why?

Because I simply refused to give up!

Have you ever watched the Shawshank Redemption, It took Andy (Tim Robbins) 19 years to dig the tunnel with a small rock hammer. Me, I am more practical I’l use a sledgehammer and keep hitting that wall until it comes down.

Internet marketing is a wall a big thick wall that often seems impenetrable , you just need to keep pounding away until you break throughout keep working at it and it’s impossible to fail. Keep pounding away day after day and You will succeed , it’s impossible not to. It’s like having 5 dice and trying to throw 5 sixes, you might get it on the first throw or the tenth or maybe the one thousandth…but sooner or later you will get it if you stick at it.

Here is an example of how I failed and stuck at it even when I was despairing of ever making sales or even giving away stuff for free!

I’ve sold some products via The warrior special offer forum in the past 2 years.

The first I gave away for free (big mistake btw!) I gave away about 20 copies…. Failure But I didn’t give up

The second I gave away for free again (Didn’t learn my lesson) I gave away 40 still a failure But I didn’t give up.

The 3rd I sold 114 copies and made over $1000. Not so much of a failure this time. I’d learned from the last 2 (this was actually a repackaged version of the 2nd wso i’d done)

The 4th I sold 463 copies. I added to this from what I learned from the previous 3 WSO’s

The 5th that I launch just over a week ago has so far sold over 640 copies (List building Debunked )
EDIT: SEO Debunked the follow up to list building debunked sold over 1000 copies!

It’s the same with whatever I try, for example email marketing when I started using email to market I struggled to make any money from my lists, but as time went on and I saw what didn’t work I started to zero in on what did work, after a while emails that might have earned me $50 were suddenly earning me $500. I’ll never stop learning because i’ll never give up.

Try to keep learning and constantly improving what you do, model yourself on other marketers and try to improve on what they do.

The key to being successful in Internet Marketing is often not to go and buy everything marketers try to sell you, (Hey guys look ..Mark’s committing IM suicide!) But to watch at how they try to sell it to you, this will often be more valuable than the product.

If you find they do it in a way that you don’t like then don’t do it like that, if you like how they do it then see if you can use that method on your sites. very often methods used in selling products will work well on your own websites.

If your site suddenly drops from ranking 3rd in google to 303rd don’t sit there telling the world google hates you (they probably do BTW!) go and look what is now in 3rd place what has that site got that yours doesn’t what are they doing differently.

Don’t give up, success might just be around the corner

Let me have your comments, I would love to hear about your successes and failures or how you turned failure into success, it will help someone keep on track.

Oh and check out List Building Debunked .. I am giving 50% instant commission via Digiresults or Warrior Plus

Sakichi Toyoda was a Japanese inventor and and engineer, he also happened to found a small company called Toyota , which has reputedly been quite successful.

Along the way he developed a method of problem solving called the 5 whys. The premise of this is if you ask your self 5 questions starting with Why? you will get to the root cause of any problem. The process is still used in many businesses throughout the world and can be very useful in internet marketing.

I can guarantee that if you ask any marketer why their site isn’t making any money then you will get an answer like… “It’s not ranking well”, or “the sales page isn’t converting”. The problem with those answers is that they are just the symptoms not the root cause you have to dig a lot deeper to find the root cause. Very few people do this and so their site will very rarely be successful. However if you can identify the root cause of the problem you can then fix it.

Lets have a look at an example. I had a (Non Im Related) book on clickbank which was selling very few copies so i had a look at it and realized that although it was getting good traffic the conversion rate was terrible. So I went through the 5 Why process.

1. Why Is the website not making sales? – Answer – The sales page isn’t converting

2. Why Isn’t The sales page converting? – Answer The sales page doesn’t engage the Readers

3. Why doesn’t The sales page doesn’t engage the Readers – Answer – The sales page doesn’t address the underlying need of the reader.

4 Why doesn’t the sales page address address the underlying need of the reader. – Answer – I didn’t identify the target market correctly

5 Why didn’t i target the right market? – Answer -I Failed to do enough research

Underlying Cause = I failed to do the correct research to identify my ideal client!
Fix = Do proper in-depth research.

This process took several hours as i had to look at each individual stage in depth to make sure there wasn’t an obvious answer. To be honest I could probably have guessed the reason to start with but by going through the whole process i was able to eliminate other variables that might have been the cause, lack of a call to action, no obvious buy buttons, lack of testimonials, over pricing compared to other products in the market etc.

So if you have a site that isn’t performing well or in fact any other problems that are perplexing you give the 5 why process a go, you may be pleasantly surprised at how much it will help you understand the root cause of the problem

I hope that I am preaching to the choir with this post! If not I hope that I have at least a few new choir members at the end of it.

I did have a post planned about how taking baby steps are the way forward with your business but that can wait. This is more important, if it resonates with just 1 person then it ‘s a worthwhile post.

Do you believe in fairies?

Do you believe in Unicorns?

Do you think that Jack In the Beanstalk is a true story?

No I guess that 99% of you will answer no to that…magic beans yeah right Mark, pull the other one ( The missing 1%…it’s the Internet, people believe all sorts of stuff they read!)

So we’ve established that you are quite sane and rational, now if I offered you a magic button system that you just just needed to press a button let the sofware run and it would generate thousands of dollars a day would you believe me?

The chances are that a few of you might.

If I dressed that up with a fancy sales page, proof of earnings and testimonials I can guarantee that even a few more would.

Now imagine if i got a bunch of my buddies to email all their contacts and tell them about my magic button system and say look as a gift for buying this magic button you can have a nice gift of this cool course. I bet you that I’d get quite a few people buy my magic button.

In all your time online and in Internet marketing have you ever seen a product with a sales letter full of big red headlines and Hype ever deliver on what it promised? I know that I for one certainly haven’t.

Nada, zilch zip.. Not one has delivered.

Salesletters are created by very skillful people and are designed to get your emotions firing, if you don’t want to get sucked in by every piece of crap out there then you need to keep your emotions under control. Read the sales letter, or watch the video then go away from it and come back later. Now look at it with detachment.

Could the sales letter apply to any other poor program you’ve bought?

Do The claims sound realistic?

If there were no proof of earning or testimonials would you still feel as strongly about it?

Finally ask yourself 2 questions…

If I had this system and it was making me $175,000 a month or whatever the claim is would I sell it for $67 on clickbank?

And… If it’s so good why Is marketer X offering me a bonus supposedly worth more than the product to buy it.

Still want to buy my Magic Beans?

Let me know what you think of this post by commenting below, the best comment might even get some magic beans.

Following on from my post last Monday (Lets not mention the Friday post I seemed to have hit a nerve with that one!!) I thought it would be useful to show just how focusing on what is actually making you money can change your business around totally. It’s often very easy to create a blog post and not follow it up with actual examples of what the topic means in the real world. So today I’ll look at what analysing my income meant to me and why I did it.

There is one rule of business that seems to always be apt in situations like this it’s called 80/20 rule or Pareto’s principle. Basically 80% of your income comes from 20% of your work. The numbers can differ but the principle is the same. The job we need to do is to identify which 20% is the one to focus on.

Last year on February 12th I got an email from a potential client who asked me several questions one of those questions made me think long and hard, the question was;

” Mark, What’s the quickest way to earn a 6 figure income”

It would have been easy to just give some bull***t answer and move on but I was actually curious , so I sat down and for 6 hours went through every bit of income I had earned for the past year. Once I had that I then estimated how much time I spent generating that income. At the end of the exercise I had irrefutable evidence of what parts of my business were profitable. I can tell you now it wasn’t what I was spending the majority of my time on.

At this point it is probably a good idea to give you some background information, I got into the make money online niche purely by accident. 4 years ago I was a member of a private forum. I was testing out a theory I had and just happened to make $600 a day from a site that was 3 days old. In the forum I started a post about how I did it (this is why private forums are better than free public ones! People share more information).

One of the guys there had done some WSO’s (Warrior Special Offer in the warrior forum ) and suggested that what I had written would make a good WSO. So I spent a couple of hours creating a 20 page report . The WSO sold very well and as a result a few of the people who bought it asked me if I was releasing a course, hmm good idea so I sat down and spent a few weeks putting everything I had learnt about building profitable websites into a book and some videos.

I was then getting questions about what I had written so the easiest way was to create a forum where I could answer all the questions at once. Now 3 years on from that the forum has about 2000 members and 50,000 posts …thats WordPress Goldmine. (The lesson there is not to use generic names for products as it’s no longer just about WordPress but understandably people think it is!)

So you see I am the “Accidental Internet Marketer”, I never really planned to make money with products.

So back to my sheet of paper with my income and time expenditure, it was obvious that the products I had created in the past were the most profitable aspect of my business. As well as WordPress Goldmine I have created several non IM Clickbank products as I prefer to sell my own products on my affiliate sites so as soon as a site starts to sell a regular amount of Clickbank products I’ll create my own product in that niche.

Once I had that information I had to work out how to maximise the income and generate more income.

I came up with a plan that anyone could follow to create a 6 figure income. On paper it looked almost too simple, build a list, by giving away good quality products or selling low cost quality products. Create products relevant to the list you built. If you have built a list by giving away tips or a guide on building muscle , then you product should be in the same niche not how to DJ or How to Valet a car.

If you price your products at the Clickbank “sweet spot” $67 /$77 you need to sell around 3000 products a year lets call it an average of 10 a day you might not do that with your fist product, but by regularly adding products you have a real good chance… Add to the products some coaching or a mastermind group and you’ll certainly make it.

From that plan I built myself a 5 point plan

1. Focus on promoting WordPress Goldmine

2 Brand myself, I’d never really though of branding in the past and I now realise that it was a mistake not to do it sooner (hence this blog)

3. Build a list

4 Create more products and provide ongoing support, the products should be regularly updated and offer unprecedented value

5. Promote my products rather than other peoples (not that I did much of that anyway!)

So last year I created 3 products the reason for this was I wanted to test out if what I learnt actually held up in the real world. Quite often theory is the same once you put it into practise. The problem is it’s not good to create products just for the sake of it. The need to have a function and a role to play in your overall business plan. So I try to create products which compliment my core business.

A report on Article Marketing which I used to build a list (I got about 8000 subscribers from that one report, 5000 in one weekend)

Video Creation Mastery – which is a guide to creating videos and video marketing

Beyond Commission which is really all about how and why you should create and launch products, and is an attempt to move experienced marketers on from just creating sites to more profitable ventures where they can used the knowledge gained for years of blog building and promotion

So one year on what has this meant to me and my business. The number of paying members in WordPress Goldmine has increased by almost 400%. I have 2 additional products in Clickbank which had very successful launches, the months they launched were my best earning months ever, although I do now need to spend time recruiting more affiliates and JV partners so they continue to make long term sales… (hence the I’M Hiring in the navbar)

This year I am continuing the trend of last year I have another product planned that is almost ready for testing , this time it’s software. I am also scheduling a series of WSO’s these will be based on my existing products and I’ll use them to generate more publicity for the products I already have.

So there you have it, thats exactly what I did to focus on the profitable parts of my business and the results… sorry it turned out to be such a long post.

So here we are at the start of another week, it’s a week full of great opportunities and possibilities. The decisions you make for the next 5 days (lets take saturday and sunday off!) have the possibility to change your life forever…

No Pressure then!

So what are you going to do this week? just do what you do every week or change it up a gear and make decisions that are laser targeted and will help advance your earning potential.

It was this time last year that I sat down and had a long hard look at my online business and decided to focus on a few areas. Those areas were the ones that earned me money, not potential money earners but actual money earners. Anything with potential or limited addiional income potential was relegated to secondary importance.

Next I did some simple maths and worked out my monthly expenses on a monthly , weekly and daily basis. This was the bare minimum I needed to earn. I then added 50% onto all of those figures.

So if my daily living expenses are $200 I added $100 to make my daily target $300. It doesn’t matter if you have no intention of being a full time marketer and making money online is just a way to earn a few extra dollars a day. Having a target helps you focus.

So for the sake of this exercise lets take $2500 as an avarage cost of living and when we divide it down and add 50% we get a figure of around $125 a day so we need to make $125 every day on average to meet our target. obviously everyones target will be different.

To reach this figure you should look at what is actually making you money, everything else can wait until you hit that target.

So the next bit is down to you what is actually making you money? For example suppose I have 2 blogs one earns $3 a day with adsense and the other sells 3 clickbank products a week that earn me $25 commission a time. Which of those two am I going to spend time promoting and generating traffic to? Obviously the one that is selling the clickbank products because If I can double the traffic to it I’ll have the opportunity to make almost $25 a day from that one blog.

If I have a 3 page blog that is earning $5 a day with 20 visitors and a 20 page blog earning $10 a day with 200 visitors I am going to be finding related keywords and phrases and trying to double, then treble the traffic to the 3 page blog (while adding new pages to it)

Now lets get a bit more complicated…

Suppose I have a network of 30 blogs that earn $100 a day and a product that sells for $67 on clickbank ($30 after affiliate commission). Which would I work on?

For me the answer would be clickbank product, why because generating a network of affiliates and also a list of people who are buyers has far more potential in the long run than churning out content day after day and trying to keep up to date with google’s ever changing algo. Spending 10 hours a week sending out emails to potential JV partners and Affiliates will have a much bigger effect on my income that spending 10 hours writing articles.

Last year the answer for me was that creating products was the most effective use of my time. Spending a week building a blog might create a site that earned me $10 a day or $300 a month. A week spent creating a product could create a product that would sell 400-500 products at the launch and then a residual income every month after that from ongoing sales. (no Million dollar launches for me unless I decide to charge $2000 instead of $27 to $67 )

I’ve documentated the whole process I use in Beyond Commission

This exercise isn’t going to be very effective if you are just starting out and don’t have much income. For you guys I still strongly recommend building a network of wordpress blogs, as you learn so much about internet marketing doing it. It’s not just about the money, you learn about driving traffic, seo, layout, ad positioning. You get technical skills and most important you learn what makes people buy.

If you are just starting out bookmark this post and come back in 6 months, then do the exercises.

To summerise this.

1. Work out how much you need/want to earn

2. Focus on what is making you you money, nothing else until you hit your target.

But before I do there are some things I want to get off my chest that will hopefully click with a few people.

1. If it sounds to good to be true..then it most probably is.

I got an email yesterday about a webinar where someone was going to show me how to make $300,000 a month for 30 minutes work per day. The copy was very pursasive but I know from experience that it’s it’s probably the finest grade bullXXXX.

I saw an auction on Flippa last week, a 5 day old site making … wait for it… $1500 a month (proof of income included) and page Rank 5. Now do you think that was possibly a scam? The sad thing was it had 15 bids and sold for $200. Anyone want to buy London bridge?

There is one thing that works in this business and thats hard work, get something that works then rinse and repeat and scale it up.

We have more and more people at wordpress goldmine getting really excellent results every month and without exception it’s been because they are working on the things that they know work.

If you doubt that, take the $1 trial (banner is at the top) and read the income update threads from last month and the month before and see how people make steps forward each month.

2. If you buy a $2000 course expect to be overwhelmed.

I read a brilliant comment last week about one of the recent $2000 courses, a Guy said in a forum ” I bought (name removed to protect the not so innocent!) course but it had so much stuff in it I don’t have time to go through it.”

Trust me thats not unique. If you create a $2000 course then you are going to fill it so full of fluff that most people won’t look at it.

If you aren’t making $200 or more a day then it’s unlikely that you’ll get any value from an expensive course, You’ll get much more value form cheaper courses written by people actually doing what they teach on a day in day out basis. Do you really think the Guru’s do what they teach rather than just do Million Dollar launches?

3. Stop wasting your time..

I know people who claim to have been “Internet Marketers” for 5 years and have yet to make any money online. That’s Like me claiming to be a Tour De France Cyclist because I just happen to own a bike, shave my legs and have and way too much Lycra.

How can I say this politely… Money isn’t going to land in your lap, if you have yet to make money online and you’ve been trying for a year then find another hobby or something else to pass the time.

Internet marketing is easy it’s just a matter of taking a few simple steps and repeating them, don’t try to reinvent the wheel you don’t need to.

Some times I get so frustrated at some of the stuff I read I want to grab people by the throat and shake them. Stop researching, stop buying tools just TAKE ACTION

Ask anyone who has made some money online and they’ll tell you stick them in a room with nothing just an internet connection & a laptop and an empty paypal account and within a few days they will have made money. (many will have made money by lunchtime).

So commit to making money in the next week.

4. Set Realistic Targets

At least once a month I get an email asking me if they can make $10,000 a month in a few months (why is it always $10,000?? )

My reply is usually along the lines of , People have done it but it’s very unlikely why don’t you try to make $10 a day to start with.

If they ever bother to reply it’s usually but (insert name here!) says that I can.

Set targets by all means but make them achieveable and realistic. I walked up a hill here in spain last year that was over 10% gradient all the way up for about 5 KM and I did it by repeating the mantra “Baby steps, Baby steps 1,2,3″ all the way up to the top. I passed a lot of people much fitter than me who had to stop for a break as they set off way to quick..

And that my friends is probably the best advice i can give you for 2011 … Baby Steps Baby Steps 1,2,3.

Have a great year….make it happen

In 1978 Michel Lotito started to eat a Cessna 150, by 1980 he’d finished his “meal” and had eaten the complete aircraft. Now what has that got to do with Internet marketing and the ability to make money online, actually quite a lot so stick with this a bit longer and i’ll explain.

But first ask yourself if you wanted to become the president Of the United States what would you need to do? I’ll give you two choices here.

Option 1. Write out a note saying “Be President of The United States” and stick it on your Monitor.

Option 2: Sit down for a few days and create a step by step plan about how to be the President of the United States. Starting off with something small like become member of the Local school Board, then moving on to Local mayor, then a State office , then running for Governor etc…

The thing is at this time of year many people set targets and goals and they usually consist of option 1. They should in fact consist of a detailed step by step plan. There is no point in setting goals if you have no plan about how to achieve it. In the example above by having your first step of joining a school board you have a very achievable target that will then lead you onto other steps in your plan.

You know where to start and what you can do… you can even break it down into smaller steps…

1. Speak to the head of the school board about how I join..

or

1. Speak to other parents about supporting me If I run for the School Board…

Once again these steps can be broken down further..

1. Find the contact details for the head of the school Board.

Or

1. Speak to Johns parents on friday at the football game.

The more you break down your goals into easily achievable steps the more success you will have.

I’ve used the example about being The president but I could just have easily set the main goal as earn $100,000 or Generate $20,000 a month from blogs. It’s then just about breaking the goal down into achievable steps over a given period of time .

This is where we get back to our Airplane devouring friend, if he had decided to eat an airplane without planning how to do it he would never have got past the first few days. Instead he sat down and worked out that if he ate 1 or 2 pounds of metal every day he could finish the job in 2 years. You see with a simple step by step plan anything is achievable. Where most people fail is the planning stage.

Now is a great time to plan and set goals you should know by now what it takes to make money online, if not read back through some of my posts or pay a visit to WordPress Goldmine there you’ll find lots of people earning money by doing the simple things.

Content + Monetization + Traffic = A Money Making Site

The way succeed quickly is even easier

Planning + Focus + Discipline.

Plan what you need to do to achieve your goals

Focus on the tasks that will make you money

Be Disciplined and do those tasks every day

Now go and make a plan and then stick to it and in 12 month time you’ll be in a very different place !
